About Us

Our History

Untitled.png

The Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation was established in 1989 by Cal Turner, Sr., founder of Dollar General, in loving memory of his wife, Laura Katherine Goad Turner. Known for her quiet generosity and deep devotion to God, family, and community, Mrs. Turner’s legacy lived on through their daughter, Laura Turner Dugas, who led the foundation from 1990 to 2018. Under her steadfast leadership, the foundation’s impact deepened – strengthening not only the Turner family’s legacy but especially that of Laura Turner Dugas herself.

Since its founding, the foundation has proudly supported initiatives in arts & culture, education, health & well-being, civic & community engagement, emerging community needs, and faith-based programs. The foundation has helped open doors to learning through scholarships, expanded access to health and wellness, created spaces for recreation and fellowship, supported women and children, and enriched the region’s cultural life. Every effort has been rooted in the mission to uplift Southcentral Kentucky and improve the quality of life for all who call it home.

Our Mission

The Laura Goad Turner Charitable Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life and empowering the people of Southcentral Kentucky. Through intentional partnerships and collaboration with regional nonprofits, we address both ongoing and unforeseen needs—working together to create a better world for generations to come.
